Weekend Wrap Up

It was another busy weekend at the Odell house. Friday night started off with dinner and drinks at Rock Bottom before heading over to see The Wizard of Oz at the Paramount. Once again, I drank one beer too many, ate a few bites too many, and had a marvelous time with Joel. We both really enjoyed the show; I even heard Joel laugh out loud a few times! Unfortunately, Sunday was the last day of the show, but if it ever comes to town again, you should check it out!

What a handsome date!

I'm not sure why, but I look so shy here - like I'm not sure what to do with a beer this big.
Oh, I know what to do... drink that baby!

Joel went with the Tillamook Bacon Burger and I ordered the Brew House Chicken. Both were very good!

Considering we bought our tickets three days before the show, we had pretty good seats.
Even from way up here, the view was great and the show amazing!
On Saturday we were in our blackout husky gear and down at the stadium for the Husky football game against our rivals, the Oregon Ducks. Aside from the few fans who had too much to drink and took this rival thing a bit too far, it was a good game. We were on our feet, cheering hard for our Dawgs but in the end the Ducks took home the win. Joel's friend Luther, from his High School days, joined us after the game for dinner and drinks at Elliott Bay Brewing Company's Lake City Public House and Brewery. What a mouthful! It was fun to listen to Joel and Luther catch up on the last few years.

Duck is on the menu - Let's go Dawgs!
Joel and I tailgate in the Tyee Club area at Merk's Dawg House - come on by if you are ever at the game.
That's right, Will Ferrell was cheering on the Dawgs!

And louder we got!

First score for the Dawgs!

Half time show with the band.

Sunday was filled with laundry, cleaning the house, and of course, the Seahawks! Jackie and Chris came over to watch the game with us and hang out. It was a painful fun game to watch and thankfully we pulled out the win in the end. Jackie made us a sweet potato curry soup that was so good, I am going to have to get that recipe from her. I made Joel an apple crisp (it came out of the oven too late in the evening for Jackie and Chris to joins in). A pretty nice fall weekend; beer, football, friends, soup and apple crisp. I heart the fall.

I hope everyone else had an equally fun weekend!

XOJO

Masala of India - Restaurant Review

We wanted take Julie out to dinner to celebrate her recent accomplishment of passing the written national exam, which  means she is officially a Certified Nursing Assistant now! For those who haven't had a CNA-in-training in their house, a CNA is the person who takes your vitals before you meet with your doctor and is responsible for many other tasks at a doctors office. Julie has been in school for two years getting the degree and now that she has passed the national exam, she can start to put her skills to work. The crazy part of this story is that Julie passed the exam on the two year anniversary of moving in with Joel and I to start this journey! It was a very big day in the Odellson house!

She decided on Indian food, and I knew the perfect place; Masala of India. The first time I ever tried Indian food was in this very restaurant over in the Northgate neighborhood. If you have never tried Indian food, you are missing out and should give it a try!

Cheers to Julie!
We started with delicious garlic nan and vegetable samosas. Samosas are savory pastries with a potato and vegetable filling, and is served with yummy dipping sauces. We nibbled on this delicious little bites while we waited for our main course to arrive.

Joel ordered the  Chicken Tikka Masala, one of his favorite Indian dishes; pieces of chicken, barbecued in the Tandoori oven then cooked in a sauce of tomato and onion. He said his dish was very good. I decided to order the Chicken Korma which is chicken cooked a creamy sauce with nuts. Julie settled on the Chicken Goa Curry which is a specialty from Goa featuring chicken simmered with coconut in a spicy curry sauce. Each dishes are served with rice and was amazing!

With delicious food and the welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant and servers, I have always enjoyed my meals at Masala of India. This is definitely a favorite at the Odellson's house - especially since they have a Bothell location!

The Rock Wood Fired Pizza

Joel, Julie and I went out to dinner last to celebrate a great review I had at work, but really because we didn't want to cook something for dinner. Joel decided we should go to The Rock Wood Fired Pizza and Spirits up in Lynnwood. I like their pizza because of the thin crust and variety of topping combinations that always leaves me trying to decide what to order. Their menu describes why their pizzas are so good, "While the cooking surface of our ovens is between 500-600 degrees, the upper chamber of the oven can reach over 900 degrees. The heat produced is very dry, which is perfect for sealing in flavors and juices. We use almond wood in the ovens for two important reasons: the dense hard wood creates more heat, while also imparting a sweet, fruity aroma." Their dough is also hand tossed, which is always fun to watch.

I decided to splurge and order a beer. I decided to order the Wild Thing: Honey Wheat Beer. Joel decided to order the Beer Sampler which included each micro brew they have on tap; Jump'n Jack Black, Lite My Fire: Very Pale Low-Cal Ale (which was surprising flavorful for a very lite, low calorie beer! I might order this one next time!), Rock Steady Red, Sledge Hammer: India Pale Ale, Suicide Blonde: Bohemian-style Pilsner, and Wild Thing: Honey Wheat Beer.

Joel ordered the Beer Sampler. He likes to tell us about each beer as though he is a great connoisseur.
Cheers to us!
We ordered the Garlic Mozz Bread appetizer. "Our legendary dough, brushed with crushed garlic, extra virgin olive oil, pecorino romano and topped with mozzarella then baked in our brick oven". It was very, very good! ($.599)

I ordered the Stairway to Heaven, which was amazing! This pizza has garlic butter brushed dough, topped with fresh mozzarella and baked. Then it is topped with fresh baby arugula, diced tomatoes, prosciutto, parmesan cheese and finally, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. So light and fresh tasting, it was perfect.
Joel ordered the Flirtin' With Disaster. This pizza is topped with hot Italian sausage, andouille sausage, caramelized onions, fresh crushed garlic and red chili flakes. Joel said it was very good and he would order this again!
Julie ordered the Bang a Gong which has garlic butter brushed on the dough, then topped with grilled chicken, green peppers, white onions, pineapple, mozzarella and romano cheese. Then the pizza is drizzled with sweet red chili sauce and finished with fresh cilantro. I have a bite and the chili sauce was so good on this!

This is a great place to go with a group of people with differing tastes. You can order any pizza in a 9", 12" or 16" size. We decided to each get our own pizza and went with the 9" size. This was the perfect amount of pizza, especially since we ordered an appitizer and beer.  There are also plently of salads, burgers, sandwiches and wraps to pick from too. There is something for everyone here!
